FAQ
How is your jewellery produced?
All of my jewellery is hand fabricated. I use traditional silver smithing techniques and every piece I make starts as raw 100% recycled silver (either sheet or wire) which I cut, shape, solder, file and polish to make one of a kind treasures. Even when working on similar designs, each piece is unique and made by hand with a lot of love. I do not use any computerised or mass production techniques which are frequently used within the jewellery industry, meaning that no two pieces are ever the same, so you are getting a one of a kind piece to treasure forever.
How is your jewellery packaged?
I have taken care to source packaging which is only made from recycled materials and is either further recyclable or biodegradable to try to reduce environmental impact.
All orders arrive either in a branded gift box which is tied with a recycled fabric ribbon or in a branded cotton gift pouch, ready to gift to a loved one or to yourself!
Every order is also shipped with a complementary anti-tarnish square and a polishing cloth to keep your new treasures looking beautiful and shiny for many years to come!
Do you offer different length chains on your necklaces?
Of course! I want to be as inclusive as possible so I generally have 16", 18", 20" and 22" chains in stock.
I can also add larger clasps or magnetic clasps for those who have difficulty fastening necklaces, at no additional cost.
Please just leave a message at check out or drop an email to hello@emmanixon.co.uk and I'll be more than happy to assist you.
What is sea glass/sea pottery?
Sea glass or pottery are pieces of discarded glass/pottery which have been found on beaches. These pieces have often been in the ocean for 50+ years (some likely over 100+ years!) being tumbled and shaped by the waves. Every piece of sea glass or pottery used by Emma Nixon Jewellery has been collected by hand (mostly by me but some have been very kindly donated by my lovely family members who also love beach combing). Each piece is a tiny piece of history, shaped by the ocean and made into wearable treasure.

How do I care for my new piece of jewellery?
All of my jewellery is made from solid, 100% recycled sterling silver. Sterling silver can naturally tarnish (turn dark) over time however, this is easily rectified with a quick polish. All of my orders are shipping in anti-tarnish packaging and with a complementary polishing cloth to help keep your new jewellery beautiful and shiny.
The best way to avoid tarnish is by wearing and enjoying your jewellery! As the slight friction against your skin prevents tarnish.
It is also best to avoid wearing your jewellery in the shower, when swimming or when applying perfumes or lotions as this can speed up tarnishing.
If you are using any cosmetic products containing sulphur (this is found in some acne products) please remove your jewellery first, as this will automatically tarnish the silver.
When you are not wearing your jewellery, it is best to store it in the original packaging or in a closed, dry space (such as a jewellery box).
Although sea glass itself is water-safe (after all, it was created in the salted waves and has been tumbled by the sea for decades or longer!) sea glass jewellery is not. Due to the natural imperfections in the shape of the glass, it may be possible for water to seep into the bezel and tarnish the silver behind the glass, showing dark spots that can’t be removed. It’s always best to remove sea glass jewellery before entering the water.
Sea glass, stones, and sea pottery are typically hard materials, but like any gem or natural stone, they can crack or chip if knocked against a hard surface.
